Throughout its history, donors, wealthy families, and confraternities have gifted Notre-Dame with religious objects: relics of saints, monstrances, lecterns, tapestries, and more. Artists and craftsmen, some of the most renowned of their time, have contributed to the enrichment of this collection. The craftsmanship, materials used (gold, precious stones, silk), make these objects true works of art.
During the fire on April 15, 2019, the first responders formed a human chain to save this exceptional heritage. Only the high altar suffered irreversible damage. Since then, museums and storage facilities have housed these objects. An exhibition for their public display was planned for 2020.
