From Pentecost onwards, Cathedral volunteers on a mission for the Church will be accompanying groups on a spiritual, heritage and artistic discovery tour.

In the meantime, volunteers from the CASA association, who have been helping visitors discover the building for 50 years, are continuing their mission of welcoming visitors to the area around the cathedral. A daily artistic and spiritual presentation in various languages is offered to individuals. The meeting point is the statue of the Virgin Mary on the forecourt.

Group tours will resume at Pentecost 2025.

Groups will be able to book a reservation on a dedicated platform, guaranteeing them access at a fixed time. Reservations are free of charge, but audiophones must be rented.

Groups will be able to access the cathedral from Whitsun 2025. Reservations will be possible from Easter 2025. Further information on group access will be announced in early 2025.

Groups may be accompanied by a tour guide. Only professional lecturers and teachers will be allowed to speak (national lecturer’s card or current teacher’s card to be presented).

To mark the reopening, the cathedral’s visitor route has been redesigned to offer everyone, believers and non-believers alike, a better understanding of the building and the history of the Christian faith. Visitors will enter through the central portal of the Last Judgement, then follow a symbolic path from north to south, from darkness to light.

A new layout for the chapels, new signage and mediation tools, such as a mobile app, will enhance the visitor experience.

Access to the cathedral will remain free of charge. With almost 40,000 visitors expected every day, it will be possible to visit Notre-Dame spontaneously, but long waiting times are to be expected, especially in the first few months following the reopening. To limit this waiting time, a free access system will be set up for a specific time slot, guaranteeing entry at the time chosen the day before or the same day on a dedicated platform.

This system will be in place towards the end of November. More information will be available on our social networks and website.

The cathedral’s interior will be accessible from the week of the reopening, from December 9, according to arrangements to be announced in mid-November. The treasury will also be open to visitors from December 16.

Exterior work will continue on the cathedral’s chevet, under the supervision of the Établissement Public “Rebâtir Notre-Dame”. The City of Paris will begin redeveloping the cathedral’s surroundings in 2025.

You can request the lighting of a candle online. It will be lit by a cathedral chaplain at the base of the statue of the Virgin of the Pillar in the Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois church, located at 2 Place du Louvre – 75001 Paris. For this, please refer to the dedicated page.

During the construction work, the Cathedral is closed to the public. However, nearby churches of Notre-Dame de Paris continue to welcome the faithful.

The services of the Cathedral are celebrated in the Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois church, located at 2 Place du Louvre – 75001 Paris. The statue of the Virgin of the Pillar, a symbol of Notre-Dame de Paris, is temporarily installed there.

Meanwhile, major events of the diocese are celebrated in the Saint-Sulpice church, situated at Place Saint-Sulpice – 75006 Paris.

The Cathedral’s primary vocation is the celebration of Catholic worship. As such, the life of the building will be marked by numerous services, daily masses, venerations of the Crown of Thorns, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and rosary prayers. A detailed program of services at Notre-Dame will be available from mid-November.

The reopening ceremonies on December 7 and 8 will be largely by invitation only, but they will be televised and it will be possible to gather near the cathedral. Further information will be available in mid-November.

Details of the reopening ceremonies will be unveiled in mid-November 2024, with the week of December 7-15 dedicated to the reopening celebrations. Two “Magnificat” concerts will conclude the sequence on December 17 and 18, and events will continue until June 8, 2025, the day of Pentecost.

The cathedral is scheduled to reopen on December 7 and 8, 2024.

The Diocese of Paris, the cathedral’s “affectataire”, is in charge of refurbishing the interior of the building (chairs, liturgical furniture, lighting, audiovisuals, signage, etc.) and preparing to welcome 14 million faithful and visitors every year. Teams are mobilized to offer mediation materials, pastoral activities, charity projects and liturgical events from the moment of reopening, as well as a reopening program that will run throughout 2025.

The diocese is working closely with the Etablissement Public “Rebâtir Notre-Dame”, the French public body responsible for the overall reconstruction project.
