The cathedral church is where the cathedra, the bishop’s seat, is located. It is in this church that, on the most solemn days, the bishop presides over the liturgy. It is the center of the liturgical life of the diocese.
The sacred celebrations presided over by the bishop also manifest the mystery of the Church, to whom Christ makes himself present: they are not merely ceremonial displays.
Furthermore, these celebrations should serve as an example for the entire diocese and highlight the active participation of the people. Thus, the gathered community should participate through singing, dialogue, sacred silence, inner attention, and sacramental participation.
